Mobile food service has been around for a long time, 49 years to be exact (according to Wikipedia!). These vehicles used to be known as “Roach Coaches.” We’ve all seen them, the diamond back silver boxed vehicles that traditionally set up shop at different job sites on a daily basis. They would serve lunch to the employees, ranging from premade meals to your typical vending machine items.

Enter 2010. Entrepreneurs are creating business models around mobile food and established brands are also getting in on the game due to the increased opportunity to sell more! One key element to a successful mobile food unit is the vehicle wrap. Vehicle wraps draw attention! When it comes to a mobile food unit, drawing attention & letting everyone know you’re there is kind of the goal, right? Not only will vehicle wraps work for you on-site, but they’ll also advertise your business when the vehicle is in motion!

Over the past month, three vehicle wraps have been produced for mobile food units in Cincinnati alone. Gold Star Chili got the ball rolling when they purchased a new vehicle and a new wrap and created the Chilimobile. “Gold Star is a neighborhood chili parlor and the Chilimobile literally and figuratively lets us take our branding message to the streets of the communities we serve” said Charlie Howard, Director of Marketing for Gold Star Chili. Gold Star’s wrapped Chilimobile will be used for: event marketing, philanthropic endeavors, a mobile lunch route, and for catering!

The other two vehicle wraps were for mobile ice cream units. Mobile Cold Stone Creamery wrapped a box truck while Wiggy Dip wrapped a trailer that serves as a parlor. This parlor serves up a unique ice cream experience as consumers walk through (as opposed to up to) their trailer!

What’s the one marketing piece all three of these business models have in common? A vehicle wrap!

So you have a fleet of vehicles. You saw the benefit of a vehicle wrap and invested wisely. Every vehicle in your fleet now has a vehicle wrap on it. Cost effective advertising at it’s finest! They are used daily. Starting bright an early in the morning, they fight their way through rush hour traffic, providing viewing pleasure for those sick of the same old billboards that have been up for the past two weeks. On to jobsites they go. Whether it be a commercial site or residential, people know you are there! Your vehicle wraps are making quality impressions, and in the residential sense, are owning the neighborhood as nosey neighbors peer out their windows and/or drive by! These same vehicles with your advertisements plastered in a big, bold, dynamic manner are now heading to the same lunch spots as the crowd. Only to be followed by the original two steps over again, workplace and rush hour. I bet you didn’t realize your vehicle wraps worked so hard for you, and for so cheap! All of that, for less than $5 a day. But wait, there’s more (said in my best Billy Mays’ voice). That’s only the work days and working hours. Are you really going to leave your billboards sitting over the weekend, all by themselves at your office?

Brian Burke, owner of ISELLMAC.com and SellYourMac.com has a vehicle wrap on his Dodge Ram, advertising both of his websites. He uses this truck to run all of his day to day errands, but also uses it as part of his marketing strategy! Brian understands that his vehicle wrap is simply another piece of his advertising mix, and uses it as such. If you visit his Facebook fan page, you’re sure to find a couple pictures of his vehicle wrap being spotted in different places around town. He has even tossed around the idea of giving a major discount for those who snap a picture (with their camera phone) and upload it to his fan page. One thing Brian does really well when using his vehicle during and after work hours, centers around his parking. Whenever he is looking for a parking spot, he determines the area that will get him the most impressions…which usually involves parking by the main road and hoofing it! In the instance below, Brian parked his Mac vehicle wrap in front of the Apple store at a high-end shopping center in Cincinnati, Ohio. Talk about hitting your target market at the point of purchase! His truck screams “Buying a new Mac? Sell me your old one.”

Vehicle wraps are three sided moving billboards, advertising your company 24 hours a day, that can be placed wherever you want! With that being said, the next time you attend a sporting event, take your wrapped vehicle, get there early to get a prime spot, and pay the $25 to soak up the impressions. Same with major shopping weekends; whether you’re shopping or not shopping, take your vehicle wrap to a shopping hotspot and park it where the most people will see it. These are just a couple examples of places that you can go to get more bang for your buck! Have other ideas or suggestions. please share!

The more aware consumers are of your brand, the more recognizable your brand is, the more top of mind you will be, and the more likely you will get a call when a need arises! You know… the whole reason you continue to market yourself.

Vehicle wraps are a great way to market a company. A vehicle wrap may be the only marketing platform that allows companies the ability to advertise 365 days a year, on any budget! The awareness of a company with a vehicle wraps will grow rapidly as they attract more and more eyeballs everywhere they go.

One company that experienced the results that vehicle wraps provide is Tri Weh Restoration. Their entire fleet has vehicle wraps, and as they grow, they continue to wrap their vehicles. One problem, a good one though, how do you increase awareness once you run out of vehicles to wrap? Use someone else’s! Tri Weh leveraged the mobile billboards on Metro’s fleet of buses. Transit advertising has become very popular, and when done properly will yield great results! Transit ads, like vehicle wraps, run 365 a year and travel the same major arteries and highways that people use to commute!

Looking for other creative ways to get more out of your vehicle wraps? My first three ideas can be found here.

One goal most companies have in common revolves around growth. This goal is one that most likely will fall in the 5+ year category, but why do companies want to be bigger? A sign of success? Greater income? More leads? Larger piece of the market share? Job Security? Trusted name? What if you could change the perception of your company with one strategic marketing decision? Putting vehicle wraps on your company vehicles will do just that! The impression that vehicle wraps give off will pay dividends throughout the life of your company. A vehicle wrap with the Advertising Vehicles Signature is going to convey: experienced, professional, reputable, big, trustworthy, and successful to your potential clients.

Brandstetter’s Kanga Roof in Cincinnati, Ohio took advantage of the design portion of the vehicle wrap process to further the perception their vehicle wraps portrayed. By using a different color on each side of their vehicle wrap while keeping the design the same, they increased the perceived size of their company! How you ask?

Having residential as a portion of their business, Duane Brandstetter knew his fleet would be roaming the streets of neighborhoods looking for & servicing homes. As a result of neighbors being nosey and addresses often being difficult to see, Duane went with a two color vehicle wrap. While Duane’s driver has driven down the same street twice looking for his job site, the nosey neighbors on that street feel as if they’ve seen two different Brandstetter’s Kanga Roof vehicles! Duane’s two color vehicle wrap just made his company seem twice as big as it really is…and if that was the nosey neighbor’s first contact with Brandstetter’s Kanga Roof, they just made one heck of a first impression!

Part IV will cover what Tri Weh did to get the most of out of their vehicle wraps in 2009! Missed the first two parts to this series? Check them out here, Part I and Part II.

For most companies that have company vehicles, their fleet is the face of their company in the public. The population not only sees these vehicles before they meet the driver, they also see them up and down the streets where they drive to eat, work, play, and shop. In fact, company vehicles receive 30,000-70,000 impressions per day! A vehicle wrap not only ensures you get the most possible impressions, it also makes sure each and every impression makes (and leaves) an impression!!

As stated above, vehicles are an essential piece of a company’s marketing mix, and have potential to be a powerful medium! The greater the reach of your vehicle wrap and the more people that recognize it as yours, the greater the ROI right? Well lets get more eyeballs on those vehicle wraps!

How you ask? Market your vehicle wraps! Help people recognize them as yours! Take a picture of your vehicle wrap…how many different places could you put it? Julie Italiano of Modern Office Methods (MOM) uses her vehicle wraps in all digital materials, from the MOM newsletter, to their website, to the MOM fan page! Over at Teasdale Fenton Carpet Cleaners, Jim Olmstead has done a great job incorporating his fleet of vehicle wraps into his TV commercials. In fact, Jim took it a step further and included his commercial on his website! Both of these strategies are effective in increasing the reach & frequency of their vehicle wraps!

Part III of Getting the Most out of Your Vehicle Wrap will concentrate on Brandstetter Roofing and a strategy they employed…
